YRU was inaugurated on March 8, 1997 with no less than Mike Enriquez, GMA Vice President for Radio and RGMA President, together with Butch V. Gonzales and Susan P. Alino, RGMA VPs for FM and AM Operations respectively, in attendance. Also gracing the occasion was then GMA-RGMA Iloilo manager Eddie Laczi.
